An EICR, or Electrical Installation Condition Report, is a document that assesses the safety and condition of a property's electrical system. It is a legal requirement for landlords in the UK, and is also recommended for homeowners to ensure their electrical systems are safe, this test usually takes a couple of hours to complete for domestic properties and varies in time for commercial customers. On completion a report will be provided to the customer with any necessary works listed and a quote can be provided for remedial works if required.

We Recommend an EICR to be carried out for us to see if this is the case. Usually if the consumer unit is still using re-wireable fuses or is not RCD protected we would highly recommend getting an upgrade. If in doubt please send us a picture and we'll be happy to assist.

Several factors can indicate your home needs a rewire, including age of the electrical system, presence of old wiring, and signs of electrical faults like flickering lights, burning smells, or tripping circuit breakers. If your house is older (25-30 years or more), or if you experience any of these issues, it's a good idea to have it inspected by a qualified electrician and have an EICR carried out to see if this is required.

While PAT testing (Portable Appliance Testing) is not a legal requirement, it's highly recommended for ensuring the safety of electrical equipment in the workplace and at home. Employers have a legal duty to ensure their equipment is maintained to prevent danger, and PAT testing is a good way to meet that obligation. All PAT testing comes with a record of all the appliances you have and if there's any issues these are noted down and if necessary some items may need replacing.
